Rhys Davies insists he is not getting ahead of himself despite hitting an impressive run of form as the Welshman moved into contention at the Telenet Trophy thanks to a three under par second round 68.
The 2010 Trophée Hassan II winner finished the day on seven under par for the tournament, two shots off the lead alongside six others, and will be hoping to continue his recent good form on ‘moving day’ at Royal Waterloo Golf Club, outside Brussels in Belgium.
Davies sealed his first top five finish of the season at the lucrative Madeira Islands Open – Portugal – BPI last week, an important tournament in the context of the Challenge Tour Rankings.
A two-time winner on the Challenge Tour in 2009, when he graduated to The European Tour thanks to a fourth place finish in the Rankings, Davies is happy with his game at the moment but is not thinking about a third win just yet.
“It was quite an up and down round,” said the 27 year old, who was invited by Colin Montgomerie to play a supporting role at The 2010 Ryder Cup in his home country. “It was mostly good things though, and the weather was up and down too but unfortunately it was more bad from that side of things!
“I ground it out well when I needed to though and it was a good score. I holed a long putt on 17, about 45 feet, and that was a highlight.
“I didn’t take much on to be honest, played fairly conservatively. You just have to wait for your little moments out there and try and hit some wedges close.
“I have been playing well for a while now I think and my scores have become more consistent. I'm taking it one step at a time, one day at a time and I'm not getting ahead of myself.
“I just want to keep shooting rounds under par and if I keep doing that then better things are ahead I believe.”
