Kenny Perry won his second Senior Major title in succession after a brilliant final round 63 at the Senior US Open Championship.
The American, who suffered a string of Major heartbreaks before turning 50, romped to five shot victory after his seven under par final round took him to 13 under at Omaha Country Club.
That was five strokes better than compatriot Fred Funk, with Rocco Mediate and former Ryder Cup Captain Corey Pavin tied for third.
Perry’s victory came after he also won the Constellation Senior Players Championship, becoming just the third player after Gary Player (1987) and Orville Moody (1989) to accomplish this feat.
“I didn't feel too stressed out there today,” he said. “ I felt very comfortable in what I was doing out there. I was in what they call the zone.
“I was in one of those streaks. I'm a streaky player. Like I can win multiple times in a hurry, and then I disappear for a year or six months or whatever, and then I show back up again. So I'm just on a hot streak.”
Perry’s winning margin was the third-largest in US Senior Open history after Player in 1987 and Funk in 2009, both players having won by six strokes. The former Ryder Cup player, who lost out in a play-off to Angel Cabrera in the 2009 Masters Tournament, believes the victory was the highlight of his career to date.
“It's probably my greatest win,” said Perry. “When you win your national Open, I mean, that's what we all strive for. I really wanted to win the Masters and the US PGA and a US Open on our regular Tour, but I couldn't make it happen.
“Now to finally have a national title to my name to be recognised with, I'm very proud of that trophy. I think it's probably the greatest trophy I've won.”
South African Chris Williams finished as the leading Senior Tour Member on two under in a tie for ninth, followed by Australian Peter Senior and German Bernhard Langer, who finished a shot further back.
South African David Frost tied for 23rd on one over par while Scotland’s Colin Montgomerie finished strongly with a one under 69 to end his senior Major debut tied for 30th on three over.
Montgomerie makes his debut in The Senior Open Championship Presented by Rolex when it visits Royal Birkdale for the first time next week.
