Relecom overcoming Achilles Heel in Switzerland

Pierre Relecom has been putting weight behind the rationality of the phrase ‘Beware the injured golfer’ this week at the Swiss Challenge presented by Association Suisse de Golf (SCORES HERE) as the Belgian challenged for the title on his return from an Achilles injury.

The 29 year old has been out of action since suffering the injury during his home tournament, the Belgian Challenge Open, but has wasted no time upon his return as he powered towards the top of the leaderboard at the stunning Golf Sempachersee.

The Brussels player carded a stunning eight under par second round of 63, the best round of his Challenge Tour career, to move to within one shot of the lead at the Lucerne venue.

“It’s been a month since I've played after injuring my left foot,” said Relecom. “I damaged my Achilles tendon and couldn’t play for a while.

“I probably should not be playing here this week but I’m taking it easy and I need to get some money on the Rankings if I want to try and play the big events towards the end of the season.

“Last week I was in the mountains cycling to try to reinforce the ankle and it’s much better now. The Achilles is something which recovers fast but I can sometimes feel it.

“My ankle is swollen but I’m not practising after my rounds and I'm just trying to take it as easy I can, just doing short game stuff, and it’s been working for the first two days so hopefully it holds up for the weekend.”

Relecom has been thoroughly enjoying his time in Switzerland, staying with friends at the pitcture-perfect town of Lucerne, and he believes it has had a very positive impact on his mindset this week.

“My friends have hosted us and we’ve been on Lake Lucerne on their boat so it’s really nice,” he said. “You can just swim in the lake and that kind of thing helps you disconnect from the tournament.

“You come to the course and do your job and then afterwards you don’t stay in a hotel room and stare at a leaderboard. With the weather like this you want to be outside, so it’s been a fun week.”
