Niklas Regner is targeting a maiden European Challenge Tour title on home soil as he prepares to tee it up in the Euram Bank Open at Golf Club Adamstal Franz Wittmann this week.
The Austrian will be looking to use all his experience of navigating the Adamstal layout to his advantage, after teeing it up several times here in the past.
Regner praised Franz Wittmann, owner of Golf Club Adamstal, for the impact he has had on his golfing career. Wittmann, one of the most successful rally drivers in Austria, became President of the Austrian Golf Association from 2006-2013 and has played a pivotal role in bringing through the next generation of Austrian golfers.
“It’s pretty cool to be on home soil this week,” he said. “I’m only two hours from home and I’ve played here a few times before. Adamstal is a special place and Austrian golf wouldn’t be where it is today without Franz Wittmann. The Wittmann family have supported me throughout my golfing journey.”
The 23-year-old has struggled for consistency on the Road to Mallorca, however he believes he has made a swing change that will trigger an upturn in form in his home country this week.
“My game is getting better and better each week and I feel in a great place heading into this event,” he said. “I took last week off to work on some technical aspects of my swing with my coach and I have figured a few things out.
“It’s an amazing course which can be approached in many different ways. You can be very aggressive but it can lead to errors from the tee.
“Fitness is so important this week due to the hills on the course. You have to stay relaxed on your approach shots after you’ve climbed a steep hill and not let deep breathing become a distraction. It’s also important to avoid injuries at this stage of the season.”
Regner is joined in Austria by Road to Mallorca Number Ten Nicolai Kristensen¸ who won his maiden title at the D+D REAL Czech Challenge last month.
The action gets under way at 7:30am local time on Thursday July 14, with Regner playing alongside Italian Lorenzo Scalise and Northern Irishman Tom McKibbin at 1:25pm.
