Patrick Reed won his ninth PGA TOUR title at the Farmers Insurance Open, finishing five strokes ahead of a chasing pack which included rising star Viktor Hovland.
Reed, who finished third on the 2020 Race to Dubai Rankings Presented by Rolex, shared the 54-hole lead at Torrey Pines with Carlos Ortiz but moved clear after a 45-foot eagle putt on the sixth hole to move to 12 under par. He made the turn three under par after birdies on the seventh and ninth holes and closed out with a birdie to card a 14 under par total.
Norwegian Viktor Hovland shared second with Americans Tony Finau, Ryan Palmer and Xander Schauffele and Henrik Norlander of Sweden.
Hovland rose six places on the European Ryder Cup World Points list to 13th after recording his third top three finish in his last four starts. The 23-year-old is just 14 points outside the automatic places after qualifying resumed at the Sentry Tournament of Champions last month.
Finau, Hovland and Reed return to European Tour action this week as they tee it up in the Saudi Interntional powered by Softbank Investment Advisers
