Rasmus Højgaard takes positives from second place

Rasmus Højgaard will take the positives out of his second place at the Cazoo Open de France after finishing a shot behind winner Guido Migliozzi at Le Golf National.

The 21-year-old, the third-youngest player to win on the DP World Tour, held a six-shot halfway lead but his advantage had been reduced to just one heading into the fourth day and he was pipped to the title by a magnificent round from Italian Migliozzi.

His course record-equalling 62 matched Højgaard's effort on the opening day and even though the Dane started his final round with a birdie at the second – where he had suffered a quintuple-bogey eight 24 hours earlier – and an eagle to establish a three-stroke cushion, he could not match the brilliance of the Italian and ended up one shot back on 14-under.

But Højgaard, who is a three-time DP World Tour winner after adding the 2020 ISPS HANDA Championship and 2021 Omega European Masters to his breakthrough AFRASIA Bank Mauritius Open victory, remains upbeat about his game.

“Obviously there's a lot of good stuff out there,” he said.

“It was a few silly mistakes over the last two days that cost me the win this week but I'm happy with where my golf is heading towards.

“I'm striking the ball good and I'm putting nice. I've enjoyed it this week. I just have to take the positives.

“It obviously stings a little bit at the moment but later tonight I'll be looking back and I've got a lot to be proud of, especially for what happened yesterday.”

Højgaard dropped six shots in two holes after finding water at the second and third on Saturday.

He bounced back with five birdies and two more bogeys to sign for a 74 which kept him top of the leaderboard.

Back-to-back bogeys just before the turn on Sunday set him back but he responded well, remaining bogey-free on the back nine and recording two birdies, however it was not quite enough to beat Migliozzi.
