Ramsay relishing Dubai test

Scotsman Richie Ramsay was delighted and relieved to book his place in the season-ending DP World Tour Championship, Dubai with a four shot victory in the Omega European Masters on Sunday.

The 31 year old closed with a six under par 66 at Crans-sur-Sierre to take the €350,000 first prize and jump 25 places from 45thto 20thin The Race to Dubai.

Ramsay was glad to achieve a goal which he admits has been on his mind for several weeks, and now he can enjoy his wedding on September 21 safe in the knowledge that he will once again tee it up on the Earth Course at Jumeirah Golf Estates for the season’s climax.

“I’ve been there the last two years and it’s a great place,” he said. “I think Angela (his fiancée) is even more excited than I am. The golf course is always set up immaculately, the weather’s fantastic and the guys at the Atlantis always look after us, so it’s an incredible week.

“For the last three weeks I’ve been thinking about securing my place in the top 60 of The Race to Dubai, so now that I’ve done that it’s a huge relief. I’ve really dedicated myself to achieving what I want to achieve in this game, and to win here then book my place in Dubai is the best double whammy you could ever imagine.”

Fredrik Andersson Hed also boosted his chances of qualifying for the DP World Tour Championship, which features the top 60 players in The Race to Dubai. The Swede finished joint runner-up in Crans Montana to rise from 79thto 58th.
