Ramsay reaping rewards of hard toil

Richie Ramsay believes his hard work is paying off after he gave himself a chance of recording back to back wins with a wonderful third round in the KLM Open.

Ramsay cantered to victory in last week’s Omega European Masters to register his second European Tour title and displayed fine form once again today.

After starting in a tie for 21st at three under, he bogeyed the first before bouncing back with seven birdies.

The Scot twice picked up shots on three successive holes and ended the penultimate day in a share of sixth, just three behind the leading quartet of Pablo Larrazábal, Scott Jamieson, Gonzalo Fernandez-Castaño and Graeme Storm.

“It’s one of those where you shoot low and you think you could have gone even lower,” Ramsay explained.

“All in all it was a good day and I’m really looking forward to tomorrow.

“I’ve put in a lot of hard work on fundamentals like set-up and routine. Once you get that it comes down to mental ability, playing shots and committing to it.”

Although he dropped a shot on his opening hole, Ramsay was still able to take confidence to the second tee.

“I actually made a good five, holing a putt from about ten feet for bogey,” he explained.

“That settled me and I played lovely from then on. I holed a couple of long putts on the fourth and fifth and I could have had a few more.”
