Ramsay dedicates stunning 61 to daughter

Richie Ramsay fired the lowest round on the European Tour this season with a 61 on day two of the Portugal Masters and then dedicated it to his baby daughter.

Little Olivia was born earlier this year and Ramsay described his appearance at The Open Championship this summer as a "treat for her" as he enjoys another productive season.

The three-time winner is without a victory this season but is 65th on the Race to Dubai and is looking to break into that top 60 and make it to the season-ending DP World Tour Championship, Dubai.

A 61 containing 11 birdies and a single bogey at Victoria Clube de Golfe will do that mission no harm and a 59 looked a possibility after he made five birdies in a row from the second.

My smallest supporter but my biggest supporter at the same time. She needs something to shout about - Richie Ramsay

The Scot did not manage to break that particular barrier but his 61 was the lowest round of the campaign and matched Tyrrell Hatton's 62 at St Andrews at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in being ten under par.

"It sort of just came out of nowhere," he said. "I've been in sort of a downturn but that one's for my daughter. She's been out supporting me, my smallest supporter but my biggest supporter at the same time. She needs something to shout about because dad hasn't been playing so good.

"It was a great round. I had a little bit of a thought of 59 but I just can't complain with ten under. Any time you shoot ten under is a great day.

Raphaël Jacquelin

"I would love to go to Dubai again. It's probably one of our best tournaments. I get to take Olivia if I get there, so that's a big bonus for me and a big bonus for her. I'm sure she'll be cheering me on at home."

Raphaël Jacquelin is one shot better off than Ramsay at 11 under for the week and is 83rd in the Race to Dubai, a position that would represent his lowest finish since 1999.

The Frenchman had a single blemish on the 18th in his second-round 65 and is happy with his week's work so far.

It's like a birdie festival - Raphaël Jacquelin

"My long game has been pretty solid since yesterday," he said. "I managed to hit the par five in two, pretty much every par five, that helps.

"For the rest, I stayed patient and got solid contact on the irons and that's what I'm going to try to do for the weekend because it's like a birdie festival, so you have to be on the green first to make birdies.

"I've played quite a lot in the top 60. It's always a goal but step by step, let's play tomorrow and we'll see."
