Rahm races out the blocks in Mexico

World Number Two Jon Rahm made an excellent start to the WGC – Mexico Championship to grab the early lead at Chapultepec Golf Club.

The Spaniard, who finished tied for third in this event 12 months ago on his World Golf Championships debut, started on the back nine with a par at the tenth but then reeled off a hat-trick of gains.

After holing an 11 footer on the 11th, the 23 year old fired his approach to ten inches at the next and then converted from ten feet at the par three next to race to three under.

That was one ahead of World Number One Dustin Johnson, Thailand's Kiradech Aphibarnrat, South African Louis Oosthuizen and England's Chris Paisley.

Spain's Rafa Cabrera Bello and Sweden's Alex Noren were also among the 15 players under par during the early stages in Mexico City.
