Quiros eager to master Malaysia

Alvaro Quiros aims to make up for his Masters Tournament disappointment with a strong showing at the Maybank Malaysian Open.

After making the 30-hour journey from Augusta National to Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club, the big-hitting Spaniard insists he will one day be a force to be reckoned with at The Masters, despite missing the cut on 11 over par last week.

But for now The European Tour’s longest driver is concentrating on success in South East Asia.

“It was a bad week,” said the six-time European Tour winner when asked about his exploits in Georgia. “I have to recognise that the problem was my putting. I hit 38 putts in the first rounds and that’s why I shot six over. But I know it is a course that will soon fit me. Probably I will be fighting for the tournament sooner or later. The length of the golf course helps me a lot.”

Talking about his chances this week the 29 year old added: “Everyone in the tournament will be fighting for the title.

“My game is not at its best right now. Hopefully after a bad week at the Masters, this one will be better and I’ll be fighting for the title.

“My length is one of my most important advantages. The golf course set-up is such that you have to see how your mood is or if you are at the best of your game. I’ll have to use the driver for sure. The golf course is not that short.

“I think it is the tightest golf course I’ve ever seen in my life. The fairways are really small and tight.”
