Angelo Que of the Philippines maintained his four-stroke lead when the first round of the Enjoy Jakarta Indonesia Open was completed on Friday morning.
With heavy rain and the threat of lightning resulting in a two-hour stoppage in play on Thursday, 42 players were unable to finish their opening rounds and had to return to New Kuta Golf Club to complete their remaining holes.
But none of the returning players were able to challenge the mark set by Que, who stormed to the top of the leaderboard in the US$1.25 million co-sanctioned event with an eight under par 64 on the opening day.
Former Indonesian Open winner Simon Dyson came closest, parring his final two holes for a four under 68 which put him in a tie for second with English compatriot Simon Khan, Jamie Donaldson of Wales, Scotland’s Richie Ramsay, Antonio Lascuna of the Philippines and Australians Andrew Dodt and Tony Carolan.
Ross McGowan followed up his joint runner-up finish at last week’s Johnnie Walker Classic with a three under par 69, a score which was equalled by Marcus Fraser of Australia and China’s Zhang Lian-wei.
They joined Rhys Davies of Wales, Alexander Noren of Sweden, India’s Digvijay Singh, Korean teenager Noh Seung-yul and the English trio of Richard Finch, Steve Webster and Miles Tunnicliff in a tie for ninth place.
The second round was already in progress as the last of the finishing players completed their opening rounds, and Carolan made an early move with a birdie on his third hole, only to drop back to three under after double bogeying the seventh hole.
Dyson also struggled early on, falling back to three under par after a bogey at the second hole.
