Putts4Charity Champions' Challenge launched

Alvaro Quiros, Spain’s highest ranked player in the Official World Golf Ranking, and Gonzalo Fernandez-Castaño, tournament host of the Bankia Madrid Masters,  gave their time to support SOS Children’s Villages, the Official Charity of the event, by launching Genworth’s Putts4Charity Champions’ Challenge.

The players competed on the specially-constructed greens, which are designed to replicate some of the famous putts holed in European Tour and Major Championship competition. Quiros had first-hand knowledge of one of the putts, having holed it himself on the 16th green of the Emirates Golf Club to take the outright lead in this year’s Dubai Desert Classic, which he would go on to win.

Following a hard-fought battle with Fernandez-Castaño in the Champions’ Challenge, Quiros emerged victorious after a sudden death play-off.

The Genworth Foundation, the charitable giving arm of Genworth, made a €4,000 donation to SOS to mark the players’ participation, with the SOS Representative, Manuel J Sanchez being on hand to receive the cheque from Genworth’s Ernesto Lopez.

The week will see further appearances from the professionals representing the Tour Players’ Foundation, the charitable foundation of The European Tour and its Members, who partner Genworth in the initiative which, since its inception in 2007, has raised in excess of €800,000 for a number of charities across Europe.

The vision of SOS Children’s Villages is ‘a loving home for every child’, and the charity aims to provide a supportive and protective family environment.

The organisation does this through its 518 Children’s Villages and 392 Youth Facilities worldwide, which help more than 78,000 children and young people in 125 countries.  For more information, please visitwww.soschildrensvillages.org
