Sebastian Soderberg was a model of consistency on the Challenge Tour in 2018 as he steadily marched towards his European Tour card, closing the year out as the Road to Ras Al Khaimah Number Five.
The Swede, who played on the European Tour in 2017 but failed to retain his status, came back to Europe’s top developmental circuit more determined than ever to return to the world stage.
Across his sensational campaign, the 28 year old missed only three cuts in 19 starts and never carded a round higher than 74 as he notched nine top 20s, six top tens, two runner-up finishes and, most memorably, a win at the Italian Challenge in July – his second career Challenge Tour title after initially triumphing in Kenya in 2016.
In the 31 weeks between the season-opening Barclays Kenya Open and the Ras Al Khaimah Challenge Tour Grand Final, the Gothenburg resident spent all but one of them inside the Rankings’ coveted top 15, barely falling out, into 16th, for one week after missing out on the match play portion of the Andalucía – Costa del Sol Match Play 9.
Soderberg wasted no time in regaining his projected graduation spot, and in the very next event after slipping out, the D+D REAL Czech Challenge, he finished alone in second place to fly up the season-long points race.
After closing out the year by making the cut in his final ten appearances, the heavily experienced Soderberg, who turned professional in 2013, will be a force to be reckoned with when he joins the 2019 Race to Dubai.
