Ian Poulter posted a competitive three under par 68 on the opening day of the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth Club, and even found the time to consume a portion of fish and chips on the way round.
The newly crowned Volvo World Match Play Championship winner had seven holes of his round remaining when a thunderstorm brought play to an abrupt halt.
And with hunger calling, Poulter decided to put the break to good use.
"I tell you what, it was one of the longest rounds of golf we are ever going to play," he said. "I only had kind of protein bars in the bag, and you know what, pit stop, it was 6.00. That's a perfect dinner time for me so fish and chips it was. That was my dinner done. Went down nicely, washed down with a nice cup of tea."
The World Number 14 finished the opening day four behind Luke Donald, who he beat in the final at Finca Cortesin on Sunday.
And the Englishman was pleased with his day's work.
"Three under par, decent score," he said. "Very windy conditions early on, obviously stop/start with the rain pretty much most of the day. Three under par on this golf course is pretty good.
"I just played well. Drove it nicely, hit a lot of iron shots, and I holed a few putts. So certainly for me, shooting 68 on this golf course is a decent start to the week. I have to play well around this golf course, and you know what, right now, I did.
"So I'm very happy, and three more days to go. Let's see how we get on over the next three days, if I can keep hitting good golf shots, sure, I'm going to be in position come Sunday."
