Poulter increases advantage

Ian Poulter continued from where he left off on Friday to increase his lead at the top of the UBS Hong Kong Open leaderboard early in the third round.

The flamboyant Englishman shot a superb 10 under 60 in the second round to move into a one stroke lead over American Anthony Kang and he made a fine start at the Hong Kong Golf Club on Saturday by firing a birdie on the second and then adding an eagle on the 288-yard third to go two clear after four holes.

Simon Dyson continued his impressive displays around the Fanling course as the Yorkshireman climbed up to second on three under through six holes.

The 32 year old started with aplomb as he reeled off three successive birdies from the first and though he dropped a shot on the fourth, he recovered with a birdie on the sixth.

Rory McIlroy - who was denied a share of the lead after carding a double bogey on the 18th on Friday - was also enjoying a good start to the day and was three off the pace after seven holes.

The Northern Irishman is chasing a first win at the third attempt in Hong Kong and had picked up three birdies in his first four holes, with his only blemish coming on the par-three second.

Jeev Milkha Singh and Kang were alongside McIlroy after going three and one under through eight and six holes respectively.

Meanwhile, Graeme McDowell is four shots behind Poulter on two under for the day through eight.

The US Open champion made a relatively slow start with three birdies against one bogey but with birdie chances having proved easier to come by on the back nine, he will be confident of completing the round firmly in contention for a shot at victory on Sunday.
