Portugal Masters raises over €22,500 for EDGA

More than €22,500 has been raised so far for the Official Charity of the Portugal Masters, the European Disabled Golf Association (EDGA).

EDGA (European Disabled Golfers Association) players Pedro Sottomayor, Aimi Bullock, Adem Wahbi, Manuel De Los Santos, Nino Ourabah and Juan Postigo at the Portugal Masters

Tony Bennett, the PGAs of Europe’s Director of Education and Membership and President of the EDGA, said: “This was a very special experience for the players. We cannot put into words our appreciation to all the European Tour staff who helped make this happen, the experience for these players will last forever and for some it will be the next step in their goal to play the tour.

“In most countries, golf is not on the menu of sporting options for individuals with disability. With so many people coming together to support the EDGA at this event, we feel very privileged. It has given all of those who volunteer their time in this not-for-profit association a renewed determination to help get golf into the Paralympics.”

Peter Adams, Championship Director of the Portugal Masters, said: “It was a privilege to welcome the EDGA to the tournament on Saturday, it was incredibly inspirational to see the six players hit shots which most of us could only dream of. It’s not often that the pros are in awe of other players, but that was certainly the case on Saturday.

We must thank everyone who contributed to the cause, from the pros who donated their Pro-Am fees to the spectators who bought programmes and drawsheets. The money raised will make a real difference to the charity, who do such a fine job of promoting disabled golf, and we wish them the very best with their future projects.
