Smith's putter was on fire, while we saw some impressive bursts of scoring on the first day of the 2022 Portugal Masters.
Here is everything you need to know from day one at Dom Pedro Victoria Golf Course.
Smith goes low to lead the way
Jordan Smith's putter was extremely hot on Thursday, helping him to a flawless 62 that contained an eagle and seven birdies. Having started at the tenth tee and made four birdies on his front nine, the Englishman sandwiched a 30-foot eagle at the fifth between birdies on four and six before picking up another shot at the par-three eighth to get to nine under par and lead by one.
Von Dellingshausen keeps fine form going
Nicolai von Dellingshausen enjoyed a fabulous week on Mallorca last time out, finishing in a tie for second to wrap up his playing rights for next season. But he has not rested on his laurels, posting a first-round 65 which featured five straight birdies from the 13th.
No putter required for Pepperell
Eddie Pepperell missed the green at the short eighth but that wasn't a problem for the popular Englishman, as he holed this lovely chip from the rough.

Lagergren's shot-of-the-day contender
We saw some delightful shots on a low-scoring day in Vilamoura but there weren't many better than this from Joakim Lagergren at the 17th. He would go on to hole the six-foot putt for a brilliant eagle and sign for a spotless 64.
One of the shots of the day 🤩

Roussel's remarkable start
Needing an extra-special week to retain his playing privileges for 2023, Robin Roussel got off to the perfect start. He flew out of the blocks with four successive birdies from the first before adding further gains at the sixth, 11th and 13th to sign for a 64 and sit two shots off the lead.
That is some front nine @RobinRoussel 👏 #PortugalMasters
