Erickson nudges clear of logjammed leaderboard
American Dan Erickson carded a superb 64 to move one clear at the top of busy leaderboard in Singapore. The 26-year-old graduated through Q-School in November to gain his 2025 DP World Card, but had only made the cut in one of his three previous starts this season. However, he carded nine birdies and a bogey for the joint-lowest round of the day to lead by one at Laguna National Golf Resort Club. Erickson, who birdied the last to move ahead, sits at 11 under par, with English duo Matthew Jordan and Richard Mansell, Northern Ireland’s Tom McKibbin, Frenchman Adrien Saddier and Paraguay’s Fabrizio Zanotti all locked at ten under. “It was a great round out there. It was a combination of everything, some good breaks, good shots and good putting all around,” Erickson said. The memory of calling my parents a few months ago after getting my scorecard actually passed my mind on the course. You try not to think about it, but you just do and I was like, if you would have told me in October that I was going to be near the lead in the Porsche Singapore Classic and going to the last round, I would have thought you guys were on drugs or something."
Cameron John's rapid start
Australian Cameron John made a sensational start to his second round on Saturday, which saw him briefly take the lead and threaten to go extremely low. The 25-year-old opened up with birdie-birdie before making it four under through three holes courtesy of an eagle at the par-five third. A hat-trick of gains followed from the fourth for a stunning score of seven under for the day after just six holes to sit at the summit on ten under. His scoring stalled from then on as he bogeyed the seventh and double bogeyed the ninth for the second successive round. John responded with birdies at the 12th and 15th, only to drop shots at the 16th and 17th to finish at seven under - four behind Erickson.
MacIntyre surges into contention
MacIntyre was the other player to card a second-round 64 as he signed for eight birdies to climb up to seven under. The World Number 14 is the highest-ranked player in the field at Laguna National Golf Resort Club after negotiating a 23-hour journey to get to Asia from Florida. But he has set his sights on winning the tournament after moving within four of leader Erickson on Saturday.
Hill's hole-out
Calum Hill, the winner of the Joburg Open last time out, had a roller coaster second day in Singapore where he started birdie-birdie-eagle-birdie to shoot up the leaderboard. Bogeys followed at the ninth and 11th, only to pick up a shot at the 13th. A double bogey at the 16th saw him slip below the cut line at two under, but a brilliant shot at the last set up the birdie he needed to play in Sunday's final round. Let's looks at the impressive hole-out at the third for eagle.
Brayden Lee almost slam dunks
Amateur Brayden Lee, the only Singaporean in the field, needed a birdie at the last to play in the final round, but had to settle for par as he just missed the cut. However, he was so close to a memorable ace at seventh. If only!
