Hugo Leon won his first event on European soil in 2021 as he secured his DP World Tour card for 2022 by finishing in 14th position on the Road to Mallorca Rankings.
The Chilean is the epitome of a worldwide player, having competed on several tours across the globe during his already expansive career, before trying his hand in Europe in 2018.
He competed on the European Challenge Tour that year before earning his top tier playing privileges at Qualifying School. An interrupted existence on the European Tour followed, before deciding to focus his efforts on the Challenge Tour once more in 2021; and it was a decision vindicated.
The 37-year-old made 11 cuts from 13 starts, including a second place and one more top ten, in addition to that breakthrough victory.
His first piece of European silverware was captured at an iconic venue in The Belfry, where he triumphed at the British Challenge presented by Modest! Golf Management, securing a one-stroke victory in September.
A self-professed lover of the game, when Leon is not competing, he can often be found on the golf course practising.
“I’m a professional golfer and this is my job, but this is my dream and this is something that I’ve really wanted to do,” he said after that breakthrough win.
You will struggle to find a happier man on the DP World Tour next season…
