Daan Huizing will have breathed a deep sigh of relief at the conclusion of the Rolex Challenge Tour Grand Final supported by The R&A after securing the final DP World Tour card for the 2022 season, finishing 20th on the Road to Mallorca Rankings.
Huizing started the Challenge Tour season brilliantly with a fifth place finish at the Dimension Data Pro-Am during the South African Swing before securing his third Challenge Tour title at the Irish Challenge at Portmarnock Links. The Dutchman then suffered a loss of form, failing to record a top ten finish for the remainder of the season and headed to Mallorca with work to do to secure his 2022 DP World Tour playing rights.
The 31-year-old arrived at the Rolex Challenge Tour Grand Final supported by The R&A in 17th place on the Rankings but by the end of the second round the Rankings projector had him expected to finish the season in 21st position and therefore miss out on his DP World Tour card for the 2022 season.
After carding a three over par final round of 74, Huizing’s fate was out of his hands. However, round three leader Jesper Kennegard carded a six over 77 to eventually finish eighth and fell outside the Top 20 in the Rankings, while JC Ritchie finished sixth in Mallorca after missing a birdie putt on the 18th hole, which would have seen him leapfrog Huizing. Although finishing in a tie for 26th place in the season finale, Huizing’s DP World Tour card was secured for 2022.
