Play resumes as fog clears in Madeira

The opening round of the Madeira Islands Open - Portugal - BPI finally resumed at 12:45pm local time as the fog which has caused havoc at The European Tour's 15,00th event finally lifted.

Fog brought play to halt shortly after it started during day two of the Madeira Islands Open - Portugal - BPI

Round One got underway briefly on Friday morning before Round One was forced into another suspension due to further fog.

Jens Fahrbring of Sweden hit the first shot of The European Tour’s 1,500thevent at Clube de Golf do Santo da Serra as the sun came out briefly to allow the opening round to begin, having been abandoned on Thursday due to consistent fog.

But the first group could only play one hole as Fahrbring, Daniel I'm and Mikael Lundberg were called back into the clubhouse when more clouds rolled in over the mountain-top venue.

While another clearance meant play was once again due to start at 9:05am, just five minutes before the intended resumption of play, more fog came in and another suspension was called by Tournament Director José Maria Zamora.

By 12:45pm, however, the sun was peeking through the cloud and fog and play resumed. All morning tee times are now plus 4hrs 50mins, while afternoon tee times are plus 4hrs 50mins.
