Thunderstorms at Olgiata Golf Club in Rome throughout the morning and no signs of any improvement this afternoon have caused play to be abandoned on the second day of the 59th Italian Open Telecom Italia. The second round will therefore start on Saturday morning and the tournament has been reduced to 54 holes.
Tournament Director Miguel Vidaor said: “The latest update from the Met Office is that this system will affect the course for most of the afternoon. For this reason there will be no play today. Round two will start tomorrow with the same starting times as today.
“The tournament will therefore be reduced to 54 holes."
England’s Ian Poulter holds a three shot lead on 11 under par after an opening round of 61.
