Pieters primed for Prague performance

Thomas Pieters is confident of putting in another strong showing at this week's D+D REAL Czech Masters.

The 25 year old Belgian won his maiden European Tour title at Albatross Golf Resort in 2015 and finished runner-up to Paul Peterson last year.

"I have had good results and I love the place," Pieters said ahead of his Prague return. "It's a good golf course, a great city and good facilities as well so you can do some good practice.

"All good memories of course. It was nice to close it out for the first time, and you know going back last year I had to have a good result and didn't quite get it done, but I have nothing but good memories here.

"It's quite wide but then there is a lot of high rough as well, so you do have to be on your driving. For me I love this course because I can carry some of the bunkers at 260, 270 and the greens are always good, so if you have a good putting week you can make a lot of putts from mid-range distance.

"I feel if I drive it well I always have a chance so that's the thing I am working on the most."

Pieters' impressive performances in the Czech Republic helped him to secure a Ryder Cup debut in 2016, and the three-time European Tour winner is keen to make a strong start to the race to make the 2018 team.

"It's still a really long road to the Ryder Cup but as many points as you can get is always something that is on my mind," he added.

Pieters was a rookie alongside Matthew Fitzpatrick at Hazeltine, and the Englishman is also eager to impress as the battle to represent Europe at Le Golf National begins.

"I've had two good years back-to-back so I can hopefully go a few places better this year," said Fitzpatrick, who has finished third and fifth on his two previous appearances in the event.

"It sets up really nicely for me. The fairways are fairly generous and you've got to be accurate into the greens, you can't really afford to miss the greens because there is plenty of trouble, there's a bit of water out there and lots of run off so you've just got to be really on the ball.

"It's another goal to make the team in France in 2018 and that's really one of the plans, to give it my best effort to try and make that team."
