Pavin trims Langer's lead

Bernhard Langer made a steady start to his final round at Carnoustie as the German closed in on a first Senior Major Championship.

The two-time Masters Tournament winner started the day with a three shot lead over US Ryder Cup Captain Corey Pavin at The Senior Open Championship presented by MasterCard, and parred the first four holes to be two in front.

Pavin closed the gap courtesy of a birdie at the 459 yard second, with his compatriots Russ Cochran and Fred Funk tied for third on three under after six and five holes respectively.

A win for Langer would end a three-year wait for a first Major in the over-50 ranks - since joining the Champions Tour he has won consecutive Order of Merits and had seven top ten finishes in Majors, including being fourth twice in this event.

By contrast Pavin is playing in his first Senior Major after turning 50 last November.
