Patrik Sjoland Round 1 65 (-6)
I only missed two fairways today. I have been struggling with the driving. I have been hitting as many fairways as I normally do. But it is back now I think. I was hitting is good on Monday in the practice round and today, so hopefully it is there.
It is very hard to miss fairways when there is no roll on the drive. But it is long. A few holes play very long, especially 16 even though it is down wind. 12 is long, 10 very longer so it is pretty tough.
Driving?
It’s getting better. It has been a problem for most of the year. Played alright for the first couple in South Africa or Qatar but after that I have been struggling with my driver so I haven’t been creating many chances to hit good second shots into the pin as I have been doing before. It is up and down but hopefully my driver is back and I can start hitting fairways as I normally do.
I’ve been putting a little bit more weight on my right side and that seems to help a little.
After last year are you disappointed with this season?
A little bit. I’ve had some good tournaments but a little bit disappointed. Hopefully my game is back and I can have a few good weeks.
I’m 19th in the Ryder Cup list. I think I need a few good weeks. Or one good week is probably enough.
Garcia?
I saw him when we were playing the sixth. He was four under par and I made birdie there to go to two under and thought it is time to make a move if I was going to keep up with him. He is obviously playing with great confidence and hitting the ball long and straight. He’s just a fantastic player. I played with him in the Spanish Open last year. His short game is unbelievable. He hits the driver long. He has the complete game. I think he can be very good.
