England’s John Parry took to the top of the leaderboard on eight under par in the early stages of the second day at the Telenet Trophy as his compatriot Andy Sullivan struggled to maintain the momentum which gave him the first round lead.
Sullivan was showing no signs of letting the overnight suspension in play deter him after he took the outright lead with a seven under par round of 64, having played the final six holes of his first round on the second day.
It wasn’t long before he was back out on the course again and he suffered a disappointing start, with bogeys on the first and second holes leaving him two over par for the day through six holes and five under for the tournament.
He was leapfrogged by Parry, a European Tour winner, who teed off at the 10th and reached the turn in two under par before another birdie at the second hole took him to three under for the day and eight under for the tournament.
That put the 25 year old three shots ahead of Olly Whitely, who moved into second place thanks to a superb four under par front nine, which was followed by a bogey on the 12th and another birdie on the 13th to move him to six under for the tournament.
One shot further back were Sullivan, Simon Wakefield and Florian Fritsch, who was yet to commence his second round.
