Paisley keeps his nose in front

Chris Paisley maintained his one-shot lead as the weather-delayed first round of the Maybank Championship was completed on Friday morning.

The in-form Englishman had fired an opening 65 to get to seven under before the storms arrived on day one and that proved good enough to keep him ahead, with none of the finishing players able to overhaul him.

The threat of lightning had caused an hour and 50 minutes to be lost on Thursday and when darkness caused the suspension of play after the resumption, 40 players had yet to complete their rounds.

Frenchman Mike Lorenzo-Vera was six under with two to finish but he could not make up any ground in his remaining holes and stayed in a share for second with England's David Horsey.

Another Englishman in Andrew Johnston, last year's runner-up David Lipksy, India's Arjun Atwal, South Korean Soomin Lee and French duo Alexander Levy and Romain Wattel all finished at five under on day one.

They were joined by Indian duo Khalin H Joshi and Jyoti Randhawa who both picked up shots in their remaining holes.

Paisley's charge up the leaderboard is a continuation of some wonderful recent form from the 31 year old, who is 55 under for his last three events including a win at the BMW SA Open Proudly hosted by the City of Ekurhuleni.
