Paisley enjoying excellent opening round

England's Chris Paisley continued his excellent start to the season at the WGC – Mexico Championship to grab a share of the lead midway through the opening round.

The 31 year old won the BMW SA Open in January and followed that result with top-five finishes in Abu Dhabi and Dubai.

Five birdies in his first ten holes at Chapultepec Golf Club saw Paisley join America's Bubba Watson at the top of the leaderboard.

Paisley birdied his first two holes in Mexico City, holing from seven feet before converting from 30 at the next.

Excellent approaches to two and 13 feet saw him pick up further shots on the fifth and sixth before starting for home with a gain from ten feet at the tenth.

Two-time Masters Tournament winner Watson, also a recent winner at the US PGA Tour's Genesis Open, turned in 31 after starting on the back nine.

Spain's Rafa Cabrera Bello and Tony Finau of the USA were tied for second on four under, with Thailand's Kiradech Aphibarnrat, South African Louis Oosthuizen, Spain's Sergio Garcia and Americans Xander Schauffele, Pat Perez, Patrick Reed and Kyle Stanley a shot further back.
