Orrin eyeing second Oman title

Max Orrin is looking to continue his recent run of red hot form on the European Challenge Tour by winning for the second time in Muscat at this week’s NBO Golf Classic Grand Final.

The Englishman has fond memories of Al Mouj Golf, where he won his first title on Europe’s top developmental tour with a two-stroke victory on the Omani coast in 2014.

The 22 year old, who is a two-time Challenge Tour champion, has steadily risen up the Rankings in recent weeks after two top-ten finishes in his last two starts.

Now on the cusp of the top 16, the man from Margate is confident in his ability to tame the Greg Norman-designed course – and believes he can win again to secure a European Tour card.

“Obviously the goal is to win this week,” said Orrin, who currently sits in 20thplace in the Road to Oman Rankings.

“There is a really good field here with the top 46 and everyone is here with the same goal to try and claim top spot. My aim is to win the tournament then not worry about my position, as it will take care of itself.

“I have got my coach here and my brother working as my caddie, so I have a good feeling about this week. It is always nice to come back, especially knowing that I can play well around here.

“I am in good form at the moment, so I feel that it is the perfect time to come back and hopefully produce some magic again.

“I just think it is a golf course that is similar to ones which I have grown up on, where par is sometimes a good score. You have got to accept when you play here that sometimes you have to go away from flags and your long putting needs to be strong.

“You have to control your ball flight too. I feel comfortable hitting it both ways, high and low, and I think it is that type of strategical golf course which I feel suits me more than a long bombers’ course.”

Orrin, who has finished 22ndand 21stin the Challenge Tour Rankings in the past two seasons, is once again vying for a top 20 berth on the 2016 Road to Oman. Regardless of this week’s result, the young Englishman feels as though the current campaign has been a successful one.

“I would have to say this season has been fairly successful, even without winning,” he said. “Obviously I would like to win, but the main goal is to get into one of the top spots and to get on to the European Tour.

“It is my goal every year and if it comes to it and I don’t get it this week then I’ll be back next year, but I feel that I am playing well and have hopefully come into form at the right time.”
