Ormsby looking to peak at the right time

Wade Ormsby feels he is coming into the peak of his career as he goes in search of a second European Tour win over the weekend at the ISPS Handa Vic Open.

The Australian claimed his maiden title at the 264th time of asking at last season's UBS Hong Kong Open en route to finishing a career-high 48th on the Race to Dubai Rankings presented by Rolex.

The 38 year old has now teamed up with two-time European Tour winner Robert Rock and Liam James and the coaching changes look to be bearing fruit as he heads into Saturday at 13th Beach Golf Club just one shot off the lead.

He was top of the leaderboard before two late bogeys in round two and is happy to be playing on home soil as he enters what he believes could be a golden period.

"It's nice to come back to Australia and a European Tour event and get myself in the hunt," he said. "So I'm close enough with this to give them a bit of a run on the weekend.

"I think the last two to four years I've definitely picked up a notch, I feel a bit more confident in my game.

"I'm getting to that age where I feel like I should be playing the best golf of my career. The body's still good even though I'm 38, so I've just got to keep on trucking along and try and make the most of it.

"You're forever changing in this game, you know, trying to make gains. I'm trying to get better, so if I keep doing the same stuff, I'm not going to get better. It's always a work in progress, this game."
