Oosthuizen and Schwartzel lead home challenge

Charl Schwartzel is keen to finally make his outstanding record in European Tour events staged in South Africa count at Sun City in this week's Nedbank Golf Challenge hosted by Gary Player.

The former Masters Tournament winner has won seven of his 11 European Tour titles on home soil, but is yet to experience victory at Gary Player Country Club after finishing sixth, 14th, ninth and 39th in the four previous editions of the tournament.

"It's always great to be back in South Africa," said Schwartzel, who is chasing a first victory of 2017.

"W'ere fortunate that we've got quite a few European Tour events down here and they're all at great golf courses.

"Leopard Creek has been good to me but I've got to work at Sun City and I'll get it right some time."

Schwartzel's compatriot Louis Oosthuizen is also looking to build on an impressive run of finishes in this event with victory, having recorded a 14-7-11-9 sequence of results.

The 2010 Open Champion has not been seen on the European Tour since completing a grand slam of runner-up finishes in Majors at the US PGA Championship, and hopes coming into the event fresh can pay dividends.

"It's always fun being back here, especially a special place like this," he said. "It's a tournament we grew up watching and want to play in it and one day eventually want to win it.

"I'm pretty well rested, I had a good break after the Presidents Cup, took a bit of time off, then played some golf the last two weeks. I'm ready to go."

Also part of a strong home challenge is 27-year-old Dylan Frittelli, who continued his impressive campaign with a runner-up finish at the Turkish Airlines Open last week.

"It's been a good season so far," said the Challenge Tour graduate, who claimed his first European Tour title in Austria earlier this year.

"Only got two events left, and not a lot can change, but the only way it can change is on the upside.

"So if I do well the next two weeks, could set me up even better for next year and give me some extra time off next year maybe, we'll see.

"It's a huge week. I'm going to just try to take it easy and stay out of the limelight and get some work done and just take it as another tournament week. But I've got a lot of family coming up and my sister is here already with my nephew, so we've had a bit of fun around the resort."
