On the tee: Senior Open draw revealed

Colin Montgomerie will begin his bid for a clean sweep of the Senior Majors in illustrious company, with the Scot joined by two former winners for the opening two rounds of The Senior Open Championship Presented by Rolex.

In a mouth-watering group, the 2010 Ryder Cup winning captain will tee it up alongside 2012 winner and former Masters Champion Fred Couples, and three-time Senior Open Champion Tom Watson, the current US Ryder Cup captain.

Montgomerie is aiming to become only the second golfer after Gary Player in 1988 to win the US Senior PGA Championship presented by KitchenAid, the US Senior Open and the Senior Open Championship in the same season.

The decorated trio will tee off at 9.20am on Thursday at Royal Porthcawl Golf Club, followed ten minutes later by home favourite Ian Woosnam, who will be joined by Corey Pavin, the 2010 US Ryder Cup captain in Wales, and Roger Chapman, the last man before Montgomerie to win the US Senior PGA Championship and US Senior Open in the same year in 2012.

American Mark Wiebe will begin the defence of his title alongside Germany’s Bernhard Langer, the man he defeated in a play-off at Royal Birkdale 12 months ago, and Spaniard Miguel Angel Jiménez, the oldest winner in the history of The European Tour who is looking to triumph on his Senior Tour debut.
