On the Tee: Round 1 draw revealed

Luke Donald will launch his defence of the BMW PGA Championship in the company of fellow Englishman Justin Rose and big-hitting Spaniard Alvaro Quiros when the first round gets underway at Wentworth Club on Thursday.

General View of a leaderboard

Donald, whose victory over Lee Westwood 12 months ago took him to World Number One, tees off at 12.40pm among the afternoon starters as he looks to regain pole position in the Official World Golf Ranking. Donald needs at least a top eight finish to have any chance of returning to the summit.

The current World Number One and US Open Champion, Rory McIlory, tees off at 8.25am with course re-designer Ernie Els and in-form Scot Martin Laird, following on from World Number Three Lee Westwood, who launches his bid to go one better than last year alongside Graeme McDowell and Thomas Bjorn ten minutes earlier at 8.15am.

The reigning Open Champion Darren Clarke will partner 2011 Masters Champion Charl Schwartzel and former World Number One Martin Kaymer for the first two days, teeing off at 12.50pm on Thursday.

European Ryder Cup Captain José María Olazábal will have the English pair of Robert Rock, who got the better of Tiger Woods and Mclroy in January to win the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship, and 2010 BMW PGA Champion Simon Khan for company when they tee off at 7.50am.

Northern Ireland’s Gareth Maybin will have the honour of hitting the opening tee shot when he gets the 2012 BMW PGA Championship underway at 7.00am on Thursday morning. The last off in the field of 156 will be England’s Daniel Denison at 3.40pm.
