On the tee at the WGC-HSBC Champions

Russell Knox will begin the defence of his WGC-HSBC Champions title in the company of Rickie Fowler and Paul Casey when play begins on Thursday.

The Scot, who won by two shots from Kevin Kisner last November, will tee off at 09.40 local time from the tenth tee with former Ryder Cup men Fowler and Casey.

Rory McIlroy will get under way in the final group of the day at 10.50 alongside 2014 champion Bubba Watson and former Masters Tournament winner Adam Scott.

McIlroy has four top tens in five starts in this event and will go in search of his first win with Watson, who beat Tim Clark in a play-off two years ago, and the current WGC-Cadillac champion Scott.

Open Champion Henrik Stenson has been grouped with US Open victor Dustin Johnson and Patrick Reed, who triumphed at the 2014 WGC-Cadillac Championship in his only European Tour win. The trio will tee off from the tenth at 09.50.

Sergio Garcia, another former winner of this event, will tee off at 10.40 with Branden Grace and US PGA champion Jimmy Walker.

Masters winner Danny Willett will start alongside the American duo of Matt Kuchar and JB Holmes at 09.30 as he looks to improve on his third placed finish at Sheshan Golf Club last year.

Teeing off at the first at 10.50 will be Lee Westwood, Bernd Wiesberger and KT Kim, with all three looking for their first World Golf Championships title.

Alex Noren, who became the first three-time winner of the 2016 season with victory at the British Masters two weeks ago, will resume his stellar season in the company of Argentinian Emiliano Grillo and BMW PGA champion Chris Wood from 09.20, while home favourite Li Haotong tees it up from 10.10 alongside Americans Ryan Moore and Justin Thomas, who prevailed in Malaysia on the US PGA Tour last week.
