On the Tee: at the Omega European Masters

We are back at the beautiful Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club for the 70th year running for one of the most popular events on the European Tour, the Omega European Masters, and the draw for the opening two rounds has thrown up some fascinating groupings...

Defending championDanny Willett, who famously won The Masters earlier this year, will have fellow EnglishmenMatt FitzpatrickandAndy Sullivanfor company from the tenth tee in round one.

Willett, who narrowly beat fellow Sheffield native Fitzpatrick to this title in the Swiss mountains last year, will be chasing a third European Tour title of the season and an Omega double, having won the Omega Dubai Desert Classic back in February.

A fitting finish at Crans.

Lee Westwood, another man who has tasted victory in this event back in 1999, will be playing alongsideBernd Wiesberger andAlex Norenfor the opening two days.

While Westwood will feel very at home at Crans-sur-Sierre, on a course he knows so well, Noren is also a former winner here from 2009, with the Swede being the form man of the group having posted three top tens in his last five events, including a win at the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open and a runner-up finish at the Aberdeen Asset Management Paul Lawrie Match Play.

The crowds will be out in force at 08:30 from the tenth tee, withMiguel Angel Jiménez, the legendary Spaniard who appeared at the Omega European Masters every year from 1989 through to 2014, back in Crans Montana and looking to add to the 11 top tens he has registered in Switzerland when he tees it up withChris WoodandThongchai Jaideeover the first two days.

There will be a fair few fans eager to see Wood in action as well, with the Englishman enjoying a standout season and currently seventh in the Race to Dubai, while Jaidee has won in each of his last three seasons on the European Tour and is 14th in the season rankings.
