Omega European Masters - day two digest

Matt Wallace waltzed to the Swiss Alps summit, Casey Jarvis double dunked and Thriston Lawrence hit a stunner on the most aesthetically-pleasing hole.

Everything you need to know from the second round at Crans-sur-Siere Golf Club.

Flawless Wallace leads the way

The Englishman endured the worst weather conditions on Thursday, but still managed to get through with a blemish-free 64 to sit one off the lead. The second round in Crans Montana proved more favourable for the whole field and Wallace took full advantage. He blitzed the front nine with five birdies, with four of those coming in succession from the fourth hole. The back nine was more of a grind, but he maintained a clean card with another hat-trick of gains from the 14th for a 62 - the lowest of the week so far - to move four shots clear. He said: ""It's going to sound crazy, but golf is a crazy game but I missed a few chances, I really did. The putter didn't really let me down, but I tried to be aggressive with the wedges, didn't really pull (it) off and then I was grinding in those areas. But that one on 16 was my hole of the day really because playing those par fives pretty good and missing that putt for eagle, but that par-three was really special - it was a great iron shot into the perfect spot and then the perfect putt so a lot of confidence taken from that."

Fitz finds a way to stay in contention

Alex Fitzpatrick has excelled in the Swiss Alps, taking advantage of better weather conditions on Thursday afternoon to sit alongside Spain's Alfredo Garcia-Heredia at the top of the first round leaderboard at seven under. Friday's second round proved to be a grind as he mixed two birdies and his only dropped shot of the tournament through 16 holes before a birdie-birdie finish saw him climb up to ten under, which was the leading mark until Wallace surged to the summit by moving four shots clear. Fitzpatrick said: "It wasn’t as good as yesterday. There was a lot of grinding throughout the round, I sort of didn’t really give myself any chances literally until the last two holes and it was a bit of a struggle, but hopefully these are the days you manage to grind out a score and move up the leaderboard. Happy to finish where I did and hopefully same the next couple of days."

Double dunk for Jarvis

South African Casey Jarvis produced arguably the shot of the tournament from the greenside bunker at the par-three eighth. Not only did he directly find the cup, the ball decided to do it twice for good measure! Look at his caddie's reation too.

Wallace feeling chipper in Swiss Alps

The leader showed his class with the wedges to kickstart his second round. At the fourth, he holed out from 22 yards to register his first birdie of the day before following up at the next with a superb bunker shot for another gain. That led to his run of four in a row before moving four clear heading into the weekend.

Lawrence's luscious drive

Another South African was showcasing his brilliant talent with the big stick in the Swiss mountains. Thriston Lawrence, who backed up a superb fourth at the 152nd Open Championship with a runner-up spot at last week's Betfred British Masters hosted by Sir Nick Faldo, hit this stunner at the par-four seventh to 11 feet. Wow.
