Omega Dubai Desert Classic day one - What they said

Sergio Garcia fired a brilliant seven under par 65 to take the first-round lead at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic.

Here, we take a look at what some of the chasing pack had to say after their opening rounds.

Felipe Aguilar (66, -6)

"I feel good. Every time you beat the course, it's nice. The course is playing really nicely, the greens are perfect. I'm quite happy with the round I played today, not too many mistakes. I only missed one green and everything else was around the hole. The only green I missed, actually, I chipped it in. It was quite an easy round. I played well last week except for Saturday. I've been playing okay. I just need to put together four rounds in a row."

George Coetzee (66, -6)

"I'm quite happy. We knew the wind was going to pick up during the round and I'm quite happy to be under par early on and kept it going. I'm hitting good shots, trying to hit some shots and they are able to come out the way I wanted them. Hopefully I'll hit it the same the rest of the week. I haven't had the best start to the year so it's obviously nice to get a nice round in early on."

Ian Poulter (67, -5)

"I'm happy with that round. It's been nine years since I've been here. I played 27 holes in practice, 18 holes in the Pro-Am and then obviously nine holes the day before. To play well around this golf course, you've got to score well on the par fives and I did that on the back nine today. Five under par is a good position on a course that I guess I don't really know all that well. In the last ten years, I've played once. There was never any reason why I shouldn't play this golf course well. I feel ready to go. I'm not sure I'm hitting my stride just yet. As well as I played today, I think there was still a couple of mis-hits in there and, the perfectionist I am, I want to eradicate those. When I do, we'll start to shoot some real low rounds of golf."

Henrik Stenson (68, -4)

"I'm pretty pleased with it. I didn't play my best but I putted nicely. I made a couple of important par putts in the middle of my front nine and then picked up some shots on the par fives where you expect to do it. I kept it tidy, no dropped shots. I hit a couple of good iron shots towards the end there that I didn't quite get the reward for but, all in all, I think it was a decent start."
