Olesen takes narrow lead

A run of four birdies in six holes saw Thorbjørn Olesen take a one shot lead into the turn on day three of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.

The Dane began his third round one stroke off the overnight lead on ten under par but he carded a bogey at the first hole at St Andrews to fall back to nine under.

Olesen bounced back in style, firing consecutive birdies at the third and fourth before safely parring the next two holes.

The 25 year old then picked up shots at the seventh and eighth before a par at the ninth saw him reach the turn in 33 and move to 13 under par, one clear of Kiradech Aphibarnrat.

Aphibarnrat, who won the Saltire Energy Paul Lawrie Match Play on his last visit to Scotland, surged up the leaderboard on Saturday after following up a bogey on the first at St Andrews with five birdies in his next eight holes to cover the front nine in 32.

The 26 year old then made further gains at the tenth and 11th to move up to 12 under with seven holes left to play.

Four time Major Champion Ernie Els, also at St Andrews on day three, notched six birdies in his first 12 holes to climb to 11 under, while over at Carnoustie, Benjamin Hebert mixed four birdies with a single bogey in his first seven holes to move to 11 under.
