Peter O'Malley registered another milestone in his long and illustrious career at this week's Australian PGA Championship.
The 53 year old was making his 469th European Tour appearance at RACV Royal Pines Resort, taking his tally to 500 on both the European Tour and the Staysure Tour.
The Australian made his European Tour debut in 1989 at the Desert Classic and he made a big impression, losing out in a play-off to Mark James.
Two more top tens would follow in that season as he finished 56th on the Order of Merit, starting a run of 19 consecutive years finishing inside the top 100.
His first win came in 1992 at the Scottish Open as he famously played the final five holes in seven under to beat Colin Montgomerie by two shots and further victories would come at the 1995 International Open and 2001 English Open.
"When I started back in '89 at my first event in Dubai, to play 500 after that is a great honour," he said.
"My first win at the Scottish Open stands out. The way I finished and the players that I beat there, that's always a stand out.
"Being part of the European Tour for so long, it's just a great place. The camaraderie among the players is fantastic and it's a real honour to play up there."
A five-time winner on his home Tour, O'Malley would also finish in the top ten at The Open Championship in 1997 and 2002.
In 2015 he made his debut on the Staysure Tour and with three top tens to date, he is eager to get back to work in 2019 with a little help from Masters Tournament winner Ian Woosnam.
"I'm still enjoying it," he said. "My short game this year was making the decision to retire come close but I've played alright the last couple of weeks with a new style of putter that Woosie gave me at the end of the season.
"I'm feeling like I want to keep playing next year, it's very positive."
