Noren will always have Paris

Alex Noren returns to the scene of one of the greatest moments of his career this week as he looks to defend the title at the Amundi Open de France.

The Swede claimed a one shot win in July last year at Le Golf National but even more famous glory would come three months later at the Ryder Cup.

With team victory assured and the celebrations going on around him, Noren holed a monster putt for a birdie on the last to beat Bryson DeChambeau 1up and put the gloss on a 17½-10½ triumph for Europe.

After tossing his hat in celebration, Noren was mobbed by his team-mates on the green and he admits - even with ten European Tour wins including two Rolex Series events and two crowns on home soil - that moment will take some beating.

"That was amazing, maybe the best moment of my golfing career," he said.

"I know the whole match was over but my game was still going and the coaches and the captains told us to keep going until the end of every match and it just felt great to finish my game like that."

His individual victory in Paris in the summer was very different, as he began round four seven shots off the lead and was still trailing when he signed for a closing 67 and a seven under par total.

The leaders fell back, however, and Noren was the man left holding a European Tour trophy for the sixth time in under two years.

"It was an amazing week," he said. "I think I just made the cut and then I had a great weekend.

"I didn't think I was even going to get in the play-off with the score I had, I thought I had to make a long putt on the last. I just missed it but then it was really tough coming in for guys.

"Winning - I felt very fortunate."

The 37-year-old has had just one top ten since that summer afternoon in the French capital, but has also missed just three cuts, and feels he is beginning to trend in the right direction.

"It feels a little better, I've played decent the last few weeks," he said. "I haven't had the season I want to but it's definitely getting better and it's going in the right direction.

"A win would be very nice but I've just got to play as hard as I can."
