Noren reaping rewards of hard work

Alex Noren will go into the final day of the Nordea Masters with a chance to defend his title and he believes that is a reward for the hard work he has put in with his coach in recent weeks.

The Swede has an excellent record in his home event, lifting the trophy in 2011 and 2015 and securing top ten finishes in 2012 and 2013.

Noren has missed just one cut this season with top tens in consecutive events at the Real Club Valderrama Open de España, Hosted by the Sergio Garcia Foundation and Volvo China Open, but has not been happy with his swing.

Everything has looked in good order this week, though, and rounds of 69-70-67 have left him heading into the final round five shots behind leader Matthew Fitzpatrick.

"I feel good, I've been working hard with my coach and my swing feels a lot better than it did for the last few weeks," he said. "So that makes me happy.

To have the chance going into the final day is a bit of a bonus really - Alex Noren

"I rode my luck at times today, and got away with a few bad shots but other than that I played really well, so I'm pretty happy.

"I'm going to have to make a few birdies to chase the leader down. But it should be fun."

Nicolas Colsaerts is alongside Noren at ten under and after firing a 70, he too conceded it would be difficult to catch Fitzpatrick.

"There are no real weaknesses in his game," he said. "He's pretty steady off the tee, and he's very good around the greens. He handled the round brilliantly, because he didn't start that well but he stayed patient and walked off with a very good score.

"So even though he's still young, he's obviously grown up very fast. He's going to be tough to catch but hopefully I can put some pressure on early."

The big-hitting Belgian had edged ahead of Fitzpatrick after eight holes but while the Englishman picked up five shots in his next seven holes, Colsaerts came home in 37.

"I didn't take advantage of the par fives, it's as simple as that," he added. "I parred two of them and bogeyed one, so that's probably four shots gone there.

"I was running a little low on gas in the middle of the back nine, and Matt started playing very well. But you sometimes have a small stretch in a round where things don't go your way.

"Overall the game was in pretty good shape."
