Noren makes Stockholm surge

Defending champion Alex Noren was making his move up the leaderboard during the third round of the Nordea Masters.

The home favourite came into the day six shots behind leader Matthew Fitzpatrick but made three birdies in his first eight holes as the Englishman opened with four pars to cut the gap to three.

Alexander Björk, Nicolas Colsaerts and Scott Henry all had early gains to sit two shots behind Fitzpatrick, who remained at 11 under after his brilliant 65 on Friday.

Noren, looking for a third title in six years, got off to a flying start with birdies on the first and second on a day that saw scoring more difficult due to increased winds at Bro Hof Slott Golf Club.

Local favourite Björk, playing just his second European Tour event, was the first to make a move on Fitzpatrick as he birdied the third to get to nine under before a long curling putt on the seventh saw Noren maintain his charge.

Björk's playing-partner Henry made a birdie on the par three fourth to get himself within two of the lead and Colsaerts repeated the trick to put some pressure on the 21 year old leader.

Four pars for Ross Fisher meant he stayed at eight under alongside Noren, a shot clear of Andrew Johnston, who had bogeyed the third, and Rikard Karlberg.

Raphaël Jacquelin and two-time winner Mikko Ilonen were then at six under, a shot clear of clubhouse leader Bjorn Hellgren, who signed for a 68.
