The 30 year old Swede, a three time winner on the European Tour, picked up four birdies in six holes prior to an hour and 40 minute suspension due to thick fog.

When play resumed, Noren picked up another shot at the seventh and turned in 30.

At seven under, he was three adrfit of overnight leader Julien Quesne and Danny Willett, the latter one of several men to begin his penultimate round with an eagle at the first.

Paul Lawrie was another to make three at the opening par five, taking him to nine under, while David Howell, Felipe Aguilar and Stephen Gallacher also achieved the feat.

Quesne had to settle for a birdie, his fifth in a row following a stunning finish yesterday.

One of Noren’s gains came at the sixth, which has been shortened to a 140 yard par three following heavy overnight rain.
