No stopping Snedeker at Natadola Bay

Brandt Snedeker was on course for his first European Tour win as he opened up a seven-shot lead midway through the final round of the Fiji International.

The American has eight wins on the US PGA Tour but had missed the cut in his three regular European Tour stroke play events coming into this week.

Opening rounds of 69 and 65 made sure he made it into the weekend with ease at Natadola Bay Golf Course and a 70 in tough, windy conditions on Saturday handed him a three-shot lead coming into the final round.

The 35 year old then turned in 32 to get to 16 under and stay on course for a dream ten days after claiming three points from three in helping the United States defeat Europe 17-11 at the Ryder Cup.

New Zealander Michael Hendry was then the nearest competition, with Australia's Andrew Evans two further shots back.

Snedeker birdied the first and when Anthony Houston dropped a shot on the second, the lead was up to five shots.

Another gain on the third then got Snedeker to 14 under and at six shots, his lead was beginning to look ominous.

Snedeker added another gain on the sixth before he birdied the ninth for the fourth time this week.

Hendry had bogeyed the first but picked up shots on the third, sixth and ninth while Evans also birdied the third and the ninth.

A double-bogey on the eighth dropped Houston to six under where he sat alongside fellow Australians Ben Eccles and Matthew Giles.

Max McCardle was putting together one of the rounds of the day and was six under through 15 to sit at four under for the week with In-hoi Hur, Jake Higginbottom, Aron Price, Brett Rankin and Brad Shilton.
