Nicolas Colsaerts ends long wait for a hole-in-one

Nicolas Colsaerts ended his near 23-year wait for a professional hole-in-one in spectacular style with an ace at the Genesis Scottish Open.

Since turning professional in November 2000, the trailblazer has achieved many great things, winning twice on the European Challenge Tour, three times on the DP World Tour and becoming the first Belgian to play in a Ryder Cup at the Miracle at Medinah.

Later this year he will also serve as a Ryder Cup vice captain but as he stood on the 14th tee at The Renaissance Club on Friday, there was one box he was yet to tick.

Stood 174 yards from the pin, he took a swipe with a pitching wedge and saw his ball land left of the hole, take a nice bounce and roll its way into the cup, sparking wild celebrations on the tee box.

"I've been chasing a hole-in-one in professional golf for 20-something years," he said. "I'm super happy that it happens to be in Scotland. I've always played well in the Scottish Open. I've had a special relationship with these people since day one.

"So the walk down from the tee is exceptional. It was smiles all around and you can see on camera, I was extremely happy as well. Really cool.

"I just hit a full wedge exactly on my right line. Used the left banking and it just went tink, tink, tink.

"You can't really see the ball go in but the reaction from the grandstands, the arms in the air and the shouts, is something that I'll remember for a long time."
