Nicolai Højgaard relishing new challenge ahead of debut appearance in Thailand

Nicolai Højgaard is looking forward to seeing how his game stands up to the challenge of Amata Spring Country Club as he prepares to make his debut appearance in Thailand.

The Dane arrives in the South East Asia nation for the Thailand Classic reenergised after a one-week break following a busy start to 2023 which saw him play in all four events of the Desert Swing.

Højgaard has registered two top tens, finished the inaugural Hero Cup with an unbeaten record and no missed cuts so far in the 2023 season.

Despite an encouraging start to the campaign, the two-time DP World Tour winner is still on the search for more.

“There are many positive trends in the game,” he said.

“I would have loved to have played a little better, but there’s some good trends and my form feels okay.

“I’m really looking forward to getting going again after a week off and working on the game. I’m excited for Thursday.”

Højgaard is among a host of Ryder Cup hopefuls in action and is expecting a stern test at Amata Spring, with the spectacular par three 17th among the 15 holes on the course where water is in play.

“The course will be a challenge when there’s so much water,” he said.

“It looks like you want to keep it straight off the tee this week, then you’ll be fine.”

The DP World Tour is returning to Thailand after a seven-year absence this week and the 21-year-old is enjoying his first experience of the country.

“I arrived here on Monday evening,” he said. “I cooked some local food with some Thai heroes, it was a fun morning, sweaty and humid, but you’re expecting that when you come to Asia.

“I’m really looking forward to it. It’s my first time and I’m quite excited for it.”
