Nicolai and Rasmus Højgaard relishing home comforts at HimmerLand

Nicolai and Rasmus Højgaard are looking forward to a "special" week on home soil in front of European Ryder Cup Captain Luke Donald as they prepare to tee it up at Made in HimmerLand.

The Danish twins have taken the DP World Tour by storm over the past three years, winning a combined five events before the age of 21, prompting talk of them becoming the first set of brothers to play in the Ryder Cup since Edoardo and Francesco Molinari in 2010.

Qualification for the biennial spectacular begins at next week's BMW PGA Championship but first there is a home title to be fought for in Farsø.

Made in HimmerLand has become one of the most popular stops on Tour since its debut in 2014, with big crowds gathering to cheer on an always strong home contingent.

And Nicolai and Rasmus are both looking forward to the unique test of playing in front of vociferous home crowds.

"It's very special, it's one of the weeks that we all look forward to," said Rasmus. "It's nice to have family and friends and everyone around when we're playing. It's sort of a relaxing week before Thursday and the last couple of days have been good to see everybody.

"Over the years it's built a reputation for some of the best crowds we get on Tour and I hope we're going to see a lot of people out there this week to cheer us on. I'm really looking forward to it.

"The course is in great condition. We don't always play with that much rough here but if you hit a bad drive you're going to struggle to find a ball now so it's definitely a little more penalising from the tee box.

"The greens are amazing, they're quite soft at the moment because of the rain a couple of days ago but they're very true and very fast and it's just a joy to putt on them."

Nicolai added: "It’s special to be here, it’s an event we look forward to every year. For me it’s a highlight of the year, it’s the Majors and then HimmerLand for us Danish players. I’m looking forward to a good week.

“They know how to put on a good show here, it will definitely be a great week and there will be big crowds here at the weekend. The course is in great shape and hopefully we get a Danish winner this year.

“There is way more rough out there now than there has ever been, it’s a little bit more tricky off the tee I would say. You can still play fairly aggressive, it’s definitely more tricky but the greens are so good. They’re quite slick, so fast, and with the rough around the greens and slopey greens, it will be a good test.

“But there will low scoring out there too, you can make birdies out there but you can also make a few high numbers if you don’t keep it in play.”

Nicolai will be playing alongside Donald and fellow rising star Adri Arnaus for the first two rounds at HimmerLand as he looks to match Rasmus' tally of three DP World Tour wins.

A top 30 in Switzerland last week represented his best finish since May and he is hopeful of finding some momentum in front of the Ryder Cup Captain.

"I have never played with Luke but with him being the Ryder Cup Captain, it’s interesting," he said.

“Obviously you want to impress him and play well but that can’t be the focus and the goal, the goal tomorrow is play well and do my stuff and have a good round. I’m just going to do my best now and all the way to the Ryder Cup and then see where we’re at.

"I’m working on my game and if I do a good job maybe good things will come my way. The focus is to become a better player, play well and then hopefully we might have a decent chance of being there in Italy next year.”

Rasmus admits his game is not where he would like it to be, but has been performing consistently despite not battling at the top of leaderboards.

He insists he is staying patient, however, as he too aims for a Ryder Cup debut in Rome next year.

"The Ryder Cup is definitely one of my goals for sure but it's not like I'm thinking of it every day, you set a goal and then you try to find a way there," he said. "This week with Luke here and Thomas (Bjørn) being a Vice Captain, there's a lot of talk about it and we can't get rid of that.

"It's something I would love to do, especially with Nicolai as well, so we're just going to try and work hard and get on that team."
