New era begins for West Course

A new era for Wentworth Club has begun with the re-opening of the iconic West Course for the club Membership as a prelude to next month’s BMW PGA Championship.

Wentworth West Course

The combined vision of Wentworth Club Chairman Richard Caring and three-time Major Champion Ernie Els has finally been realised in the form of a magnificent, renovated course fit for Championship golf in the 21st century.

It was Caring who had the honour of striking the first blow, almost ten months after construction commenced on the final phase of a major renovation and modernisation project which started back in 2006.

Playing in the company of two-time Major Champion Tony Jacklin, European Tour Chief Executive, George O’Grady, and 2010 Club Captain, Andrew Cox, Caring’s team also enjoyed the distinction of taking the first prize in ‘Chairman’s Day’.

Long-time Club Professional and winning Ryder Cup Captain, Bernard Gallacher, and golf courses Manager, Chris Kennedy, were among the interested spectators on the first tee as the West Course became an active area once more.

Play is currently restricted to Wentworth Club Members and their guests, while the first professional event will be The European Tour’s flagship event, the BMW PGA Championship, from May 20-23.

Advance tickets are available now for the BMW PGA Championship with adult seasons (all four days and practice day pro-am) available before May 16 for £50.00, a saving of £10 on the gate price.

Adult weekend tickets for Saturday and Sunday are £40 (gate price £50) with any one day ticket on sale for £25 from Thursday to Sunday (gate price £30). Concession season tickets for senior citizens is £25 (gate price £30); weekend tickets £20 (£25), day tickets £12 (£15).

Children under the age of 16 will be admitted free of charge when accompanied by an adult.
