Nelson Mandela Bay Championship: Three to Watch

The fourth and final event of the European Challenge Tour’s South African Swing has arrived with the Nelson Mandela Bay Championship taking place at Humewood Golf Club. Here are three names to keep an eye on this week.

Form horse: Adam Blommé

Blomme

Adam Blommé has enjoyed a red-hot start to the 2023 Challenge Tour season and currently sits in pole position on the Road to Mallorca Rankings. The Swede finished runner-up to South African Oliver Bekker at the Dimension Data Pro-Am after carding rounds of 66-67-72-66, before a tied seventh finish at last week’s SDC Open. The 26-year-old is looking for another strong performance in the fourth and final event in South Africa this week to cement his position at the top of the Rankings before the Road to Mallorca heads to India in March.

Local boy: Casey Jarvis

Casey Jarvis

19-year-old Casey Jarvis has shown no sign of inexperience at the start of the 2023 Road to Mallorca. The South African has climbed into fourth position on the Rankings courtesy of a ninth place finish at the Dimension Data Pro-Am and a runner-up finish at last week’s SDC Open, where he pushed countryman JJ Senekal till the very end at Zebula Golf Estate & Spa. Jarvis will be hoping to continue his impressive form on home soil this week at Humewood Golf Club, South Africa’s ‘only true links’.

The outsider: Bradley Bawden

Bawden (2)

Bradley Bawden has surprised many with an impressive start to the 2023 season, including a top fop five finish at the SDC Open last week. The Englishman has been plying his trade on the Sunshine Tour over the past year and has been able to use his experience of playing in South Africa to his advantage during the co-sanctioned events. The 26-year-old sits in 12th position on the Road to Mallorca Rankings and he will be targeting a maiden professional victory at the Nelson Mandela Bay Championship.
